Shoppable Channel Basics
Sure, those ads right before a YouTube video can be annoying – but admit it, you might not have found out about some products or services otherwise. Now YouTube is taking things a step further for when you actually like something you see and want to buy it – introducing the first ever “Shoppable channels”. Google says “the channel gadget on YouTube that will enable consumer goods brands to connect consumers directly with retailers throughout the entire YouTube experience” (Source: www.mashable.com) Here’s what you need to know:
[success]Why are these channels being used?[/success]
Marketers have been trying to figure out how to shorten the road from view to purchase via YouTube since it’s existence. This is also amazing news for retailers who may have their products featured in a video and can then have viewers automatically find their “Shoppable” channel and make the purchase immediately. Basically, it’s time saving and money making.
[success]What brands will use it?[/success]
So far, Tresemme is the first brand that has full advantage of this feature but some rumored brands and companies that are sure to jump on the bandwagon include Target and Neiman Marcus. This will take retail to a whole new level and allow for shoppers to get the exact products that they see in the online demo videos.
[success]Will it work?[/success]
Tresemme has reportedly already generated over 2.7 million views on their channel where users can click on the products in demo videos for purchase information such as price, retailers that carry the product, and availability. This new perk is exclusive and will only be available to YouTube brand channel pages.
