3 Ways To Prepare For Penguin 2.0

By now, everyone with a website – especially businesses – should be familiarized with Google’s search engine algorithms names Panda and Penguin. These algorithms demote websites that use faulty SEO practices and try to cheat their way onto the first page of search engine results. Now, Penguin 2.0, due to come out in a few weeks is another addition and we’re going to tell you want you can do to protect your website from getting bumped from it’s current spot.

Check up on all your existing links to other websites and make sure that the sites you are building online relationships with have a good reputation and are using legitimate SEO practices. There’s nothing worse than working hard to have your website be the best and following all the rules only to have a link to a shady website ruin it all your time and effort. Which brings us to our next point – talk to your developer or whoever is in charge of your site maintenance and SEO. Make sure that they know these updates are happening and look at your links to make sure that they aren’t using over-optimized anchor text, are coming from sites that are irrelevant to yours, or in the worst case scenario that your links come from “adult” websites. Once you’ve gone over your links with a fine tooth comb, add some fresh ones from relevant websites to spruce up your content.

Speaking of which, content is the most important part of your website. Remember that content can vary from text all the way through to videos. We know Google ranks websites with blogs, videos, and relevant images higher than websites that don’t have these features. So if you’ve been neglecting your blog or using images from years ago, now is a good time for an update. If you don’t already have a video on your site, get to it! It doesn’t have to be complicated. Create a simple 1-minute video made with your computer’s webcam, posted onto YouTube, and linked back to your website. As long as it’s fun, informative, and engaging – visitors to your site will love it!
