3 Tips for a Multipurpose Blog
Blogging is an awesome way to get in touch with your target audience and drive traffic to your website – we’ve mentioned this before. But how do blogs serve a purpose when you’re NOT blogging? Here’s 3 ways blogs are working for you even when you aren’t actively blogging.
[success]1. Optimization[/success]
As you may have noticed through our blog, we often set up links to previous posts that are similar topics. Why? One reason is to encourage readers to educate themselves on various topics that we’ve posted and another is to garner more attention to posts that may not have gotten much attention at the time of their original post. Also, a blog should optimize the effect you have on your audience. Encourage them to do something new, ask them questions, get them involved. In short, make your posts engaging and your titles catchy otherwise they won’t get read.
[success]2. Update[/success]
Update your blog often. Not just with new posts and content, but go back, look at your previous posts and spruce them up. Perhaps when you just started out your blog you weren’t using images. Now is your chance to go back and add some visual interest. Also, consider having an “updates” sidebar to your blog so that readers can check out previous posts that have been updated to be more relevant. You need to be consistent and if your blog starts looking dated, readers will notice.

[success]3. Social[/success]
We’ve already mentioned giving your readers a call to action, getting them engaged in conversation, but if you’ve already done this you should take it to the next level. Linking is hugely important and if you haven’t already linked your blog to social media outlets, you should start right now. Blogging is a social online activity and your audience should be able to discuss it not just in your comments section but via other social media platforms. Our personal favorite is Twitter because opinions have to be made in 140 characters or less – that can be a real challenge!

Hmmm interesting. Maybe I’ll take this year off between degrees to set up a blog instead of always posting stuff on my fb. Thanks for the tips!
