3 Lessons to learn from Margaret Thatcher
This week, the world received the news that one of Britain’s most memorable Prime Minister’s passed away. Whether you believed in her politics or not, one thing is undeniable. Margaret Thatcher was a strong leader, a woman in the middle of a male dominated world, and we could learn a few things from the Iron Lady.
[success]1. Hold on to Your Principles[/success]Margaret had one quality that some admired, while others became thoroughly annoyed, but this quality could end up helping your business. She never let go of her principles and was known for being tough, frugal, and unapologetic. Furthermore, she never let criticism of her politics change her mind. She was a leader of one of the most powerful countries in the world and she certainly didn’t allow for negative press to alter her goals and political strategies. By standing your ground for the things you truly believe in – even if the majority disagrees with you – means that you are standing up for your principles and priorities with your business.
[success]2. It’s a Man’s World[/success]
“…But it would be nothing without a woman or a girl”, that’s how the famous song goes and with the Iron Lady it rings true. She was Britain’s first female leader and surprisingly she was even quoted as saying that she didn’t believe there would be a female Prime Minister in her lifetime. Way to prove herself wrong! The lesson here is that even the things that may seem impossible can turn out to be reality. Margaret Thatcher didn’t become Prime Minister by giving up because she was a woman – instead she worked twice as hard and got results. It just goes to prove that even your highest goals can be reached if you’re willing to put in the work.
[success]3. Leadership[/success]
As you can imagine, being the first female Prime Minister and having your all male cabinet take you seriously can be an uphill battle. Having the rest of the major world leaders also be all males wasn’t a comforting thought either. But through her no-nonsense approach to politics, Margaret proved that she could successfully lead and be respected by her peers. By her example it’s clear that one of the keys to success is to be a strong and fearless leader so that other can trust and follow you.
